Outlook 2003 Error When Accessing Exchange 2010 Calendar

Outlook 2003 SP3
Exchange Server 2010 SP1
I granted a Mail Universal Security Group editor permission to a shared mailbox. Members of that group who had Outlook 2003 were able to open the calendar but if they tried to open or add an item to the calendar, they'd get the warnings/errors below.
The workaround was to grant the group full access permission to the mailbox itself. This might not be acceptable in all situations, but the requester was OK with this, so I'm not going to troubleshoot it any further.
This looks like an issue with Outlook 2003 since I tested a little bit with Outlook 2010 and didn't run into any issues.
